Unity Temple Restoration
Oak Park, Illinois
Originally designed in the early 1900’s by Frank Lloyd Wright, Unity Temple is regarded by many as the first structure of modern architecture. The client’s vision was to restore it to its original condition in all essential spaces with only minor changes to non-essential spaces. PMA provided the schedule, budget and potential scope for Phase I in order to analyze and determine how to best proceed with the restoration.
The foundation then retained PMA to oversee Phase II, which consisted of design and construction administration. The design was split into exterior and interior work in order to optimize the overall construction schedule. Throughout the entire project, PMA provided oversight of the historical review and process with multiple authorities having jurisdiction such as Landmarks Illinois and the Village of Oak Park Historic Preservation Commission.
