The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago is located on the city's historic Magnificent Mile and is the oldest surviving original structure north of the Chicago River. Designed by architect Ralph Adams Cram, Fourth Church opened for worship in this location in 1914. Despite recent renovation projects, most of the original Gothic architectural features have remained unchanged for nearly 100 years.
Fourth Church retained PMA to provide project management services for a number of sanctuary improvements. New pews were replicated to replace the original ornate pews that had begun to fail, and improvements with respect to pew layout were made to better accommodate those with disabilities. Another major element of the project was the replacement of the church's dated audio system. A new state-of-the-art sound system was installed as was a sound induction loop system to improve the worship experience for those with impaired hearing. The final component of the project scope was an extensive study of the sanctuary HVAC system aimed at improving sound quality and the acoustic environment.
