The Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute is a California based, non-profit medical research institute, who through this project, has established bicoastal operations with a major research institute located on the Lake Nona development in Orlando, Florida. The first facility of its kind in the area, the Institute is certified LEED® Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council with capacity for over 300 research, support and administrative staff. The 175,000 square foot facility includes biology and chemistry labs, core-specific research labs, a forefront technology center and the Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics. Unique in many ways, Sanford-Burnham also maintains a high speed data link connecting the bicoastal sites allowing for the transfer of large data files to feed its cross-continent collaboration efforts. Sanford-Burnham also enjoys live video conferencing capabilities, where live conferences and seminars can be streamed cross country.
Funded by the City of Orlando, Orange County, Lake Nona, and the State of Florida, Project Management Advisors, Inc. (PMA) was retained by Sanford-Burnham to help guide them through the process of developing, designing and constructing their new facility. PMA assisted in the coordination of agreements, project schedule and budget development, and providing owner representation with the design team. PMA also worked closely with Sanford-Burnham to manage the schedule, budget, design, and construction of a 16,000 square foot temporary facility utilized during the development of the new facility.
