Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. - Research and Development Headquarters

This project entailed the construction of a new 176,000 square foot headquarters facility on an undeveloped 12 acre site with sufficient space to support the operational research and development activities of Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for the next 20+ years. The new facility houses biology, chemistry, chemical synthesis, specialized research space, office, conference, seminar and board room facilities. The facility was designed to a targeted project cost and was delivered within 22 months of project initiation.

Project Management Advisors, Inc. (PMA) performed a deep scope of services from site acquisition through occupancy. PMA’s pre-purchase due diligence effort confirmed that the site would accommodate the proposed facility, thus enabling Isis to confidently negotiate and close on the land purchase. The City of Carlsbad planning, grading and building approval strategy was mapped and administered by PMA. Our core services of developing and overseeing the overall project schedule and budgets, project accounting, and providing design and construction management scopes were instrumental in the project’s progress and completion within budget and schedule goals. FF&E and scientific equipment procurement was managed by Isis with PMA’s assistance.
