Selected in a competitive proposal process by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Milwaukee Intermodal Partners (a Joint Venture Partnership between Project Management Advisors, Inc. and Wilton Partners, LLC) completed a redevelopment of the existing Amtrak station property located in downtown Milwaukee into a multi-modal transit facility. Consultants for the project included the world-class Wisconsin-based firms of Eppstein Uhen Architects, IBC Engineering, Kapur & Associates and CG Schmidt Construction.
Originally opened in 1965, the station currently ranks among Amtrak’s 25 busiest in ridershipp nationwide. The $17 million redevelopment plan involved a total renovation of the existing three story 60,000 square foot building, including removal of the existing facade and the addition of a 7,500 square foot three story glass atrium. The facility, now known as Milwaukee Intermodal Station, serves as a distinctive traveler-friendly facility, incorporating state-of-the-art amenities, fully landscaped grounds and surrounding infrastructure improvements to accommodate both current and future needs. The new station serves as a “one stop shop” for all area public transportation needs including rail, inter-city bus, public transit, taxi and shuttle vans; and features an extensive range of top national brands of retail products and services. Interactive ad displays, kiosks and tourist information on local venues and attractions are also incorporated into the facility. Milwaukee Intermodal Partners also fulfills the long-term management and leasing functions of the facility for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
