The Village of Tinley Park retained Project Management Advisors, Inc. (PMA) as their owner’s representative to provide comprehensive project management services for the construction of the new 80th Avenue Metra Station, including the demolition of the existing station. This Metra station is the fourth busiest in the Chicago region and will remain in full operation during the construction of the new station. The project will be built in two phases, the first phase includes the demolition and construction of the new station and the second phase includes the construction of a pedestrian underpass, eliminating dangerous crosswalks over active railroad tracks.

Project management challenges include phased construction, maintaining full commuter operations during construction, quality control and assurances to meet federal regulations, redevelopment of the surrounding site, and the construction of a pedestrian underpass beneath live railroad tracks. Additional challenges include the potential for poor soil beneath the building’s footings and coordinating train platform construction with Metra construction forces.

The new, fully accessible station will include public restroom facilities, a café, an expanded ticket counter, a patron plaza, and sitting area within the station. The surrounding five acres will include new traffic patterns, landscaping, warming shelters, and train platforms.
