City of Lake Forest Public Works Project

In 2002, the City of Lake Forest, Illinois completed the design for the installation of a new 36” water transmission line and a complete rehabilitation of its water treatment plant located on the shore of Lake Michigan. Lake Forest, located 31 miles north of Chicago, is an established community known for their prestigious businesses and residences. With a population of over 18,000 residents, Lake Forest provides its own water service, as well as water service to residents in adjacent communities.

The water plant rehabilitation, which was completed over 24 months, includes a new state-of-the-art membrane filtration system, the first of its kind to be installed in Illinois. Membrane filtration technology may become the preferred method for many communities who currently treat their water with chemical technology.

Working on behalf of the City of Lake Forest, PMA and its subconsultant, James H. Johnson, managed the overall project implementation. Key tasks provided include: ensuring uninterrupted water supply during construction, communication with residents via a PMA project website, monitoring of construction traffic, maintenance of staging areas, coordination of concurrent activities, daily site visits and periodic planning and interaction with local residents affected by the work. Additionally, PMA managed the overall budget, project schedule, and the contracts of the engineers, contractors and vendors.
